I had an opportunity to teach tennis at a five-star hotel in Nevis, a small island in the Caribbean Sea. After that, my friend Clayton and I flew into Panama City for a surfing outing at a surfing camp in the bay of Chiriqui, whose tourism is booming. To get there, we had to take my tennis bags on and off several buses and boats. After eight hours of travel we finally arrived. The camp was perfect, and the accommodations were not bad. We had an unbelievable week there!
On our return trip, when we got to the bus station, we learned that our bus had been delayed for 2.5 hours. The sun was beating down on us.
As we walked over to the shaded area, a couple of kids started throwing rocks at me. I opened a can of tennis balls. They stopped and took an interest in the balls. I had a special racket(网球拍)with me. It had the strings cut out and replaced with a net, which is perfect for my hotel teaching. I got them to throw the balls into the net. They seemed to enjoy that. Then an old boy got interested, to whom I gave another racket to hit the ball into the net of the catching racket. I showed him how to position and hold the racket. Soon, their bus arrived, and they were on their way.
But families from across the street came over and wanted their 10-minute tennis lesson, too. The other passengers waiting for the bus each got a lesson. Eventually, restaurant workers next door and the bus terminal clerk invited me to give them a lesson, too. They learnt well and were having a great time. And so was I. In what seemed like no time, our bus arrived. Satisfied with what I did, I changed my shirt, and made it back to Panama City.
24. What can you learn about the bay of Chiriqui from the 1st Paragraph?
A. Its development depends on tourism. B. It is famous for its tennis camps.
C. It offers cheap accommodations. D. It's far away from Panama City.
25. Why did the author have a special racket?
A. To attract children. B. To catch the rocks.
C. To help him to teach. D. To hit the balls back
26. What were the children doing at the shaded area when the author arrived?
A. Waiting for their bus. B. Learning to play tennis.
C. Fighting for the shaded area. D. Playing games with each other.
27. flow did the author feel at the bus station in the end?
A. Embarrassed. B. Confident. C. Surprised. D. Proud.

Astronomers already knew of about 4,000 exoplanets(系外行星),and a team of astronomers led by an undergraduate student in Texas has discovered another two planets orbiting stars more than 1,200 light-years from Earth. The discoveries have been accepted for publication in The Astronomical Journal.
Anne Dattilo, a senior at the university of Texas, Austin, found the planets by using an artificial intelligence program to comb through a mountain of data collected by NASA's Kepler space telescope. By using Al, the 22-year-old is helping to move in a new period in astronomical research.
Dattilo got involved in the project after astronomer Andrew Vanderburg gave a talk during one of her classes. And at the very end, Andrew said, "I'm taking undergraduates if any of you want to do research on this subject finding planets.”
"I decided that's what I wanted to do, so I c-mailed her.” said Dattilo.
Kepler, launched in 2009, was designed to point at a small area of sky and measure the light from some 100,000 stars in its field of view. If there is a planet orbiting one of the stars, the light coming from that star will dim(变暗) slightly when the planet passes in front of it. Toward the end of Kepler's life, mechanical failures meant it couldn't measure the light quite as accurately, so the data it collected were harder to interpret.
Dattilo employed an artificial intelligence program called Astronet-K2 to work on data from the latter part of the Kepler task. Once the programme found stars that appeared to have planets, Dattilo and her colleagues used ground-based telescopes to confirm the findings.
Michelle Ntampaka, an astronomy expert, expects to see lots more astronomers using artificial intelligence techniques to analyse their data in the future. That's because newer telescopes don't collect images of stars and galaxies(星系)so much as digital data about these sky objects.
28. What inspired Anne Dattilo to do research into space?
A. The data collected by Kepler. B. A speech given by an astronomer.
C. An e-mail from an astronaut. D. The development of Al.
29. How did Kepler help to find a potential planet?
A. By recording the light from stars. B. By orbiting the stars.
C. By weakening the light from stars. D. By working on the data.
30. What does the underlined word "it" in Paragraph 5 refer to?
A. The light. B. The star. C. Kepler. D. The programme.
31. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. The space telescopes will disappear in space study.
B. Space study will be a popular major in university.
C. Artificial intelligence has been widely used in astronomy.
D. Artificial intelligence will play an important role in space study.
D
Very frequent use of social media does damage to the mental health of teenagers but it causes harm indirectly-through cybcrbullying(网络欺凌), sleep loss and reduced physical activity-rather than directly by affecting brain development. This is a conclusion carried out by researchers from Imperial College and University College London.
The study examined lifestyle, health, wellbeing and use of technology in almost 10,000 adolescents in England over three years aged 13-16. During this period frequent users of social media in the sample rose from 43 per cent to 69 per cent of boys and from 51 per cent to 75 per cent of girls. Statistical analysis of the results showed that more participation in social media was associated with greater psychological distress in both sexes. Almost all the harm was caused by three factors: most important was cyberbullying, followed by loss of sleep and then reduced physical activity.
"Our results suggest that social media itself doesn't cause harm, but that frequent use may have a negative impact on mental health." said Russell Viner, professor at the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health.
Ann Desmet, a child health expert at Ghent University in Belgium, said: "Social media use among youngsters need not be as negative as often assumed. If the displacement of healthy lifestyles and cybcrbullying can be attenuated, the positive effects of social media, such as encouraging social interactions, can be increased."
Although the researchers said the study was the best available analysis of the effects of social media on teenagers, it still had many limitations. "There is a strong feeling among researchers that social media companies themselves should provide more data so as to improve our ability to analyse their services." said Prof. Viner.
32. In which section of a newspaper may this text appear?
A. Entertainment B. Health C. Education D. Science
33. What can you learn about the research from Paragraph 2?
A. Frequent use of social media affected brain development directly.
B. The effect that social media had on girls was twice stronger than boys
C. The harm was caused by cyberbullying, loss of sleep and reduced physical activity
D. More involvement in social media is the only reason for greater psychological distress.
34. What does the underlined word "attenuated" in Paragraph 4 mean?
A. Increased. B. Weakened. C. Strengthened. D. Ignored.
35. What can you learn from the text?
A. The study suggested no effects of social media on teenagers.
B. The author called on teenagers to stay away from social media.
C. The study suggested that social media itself harmed the teenagers.
D. Researchers hoped for more relevant data from the social media companies.
